Busy but not so good Wednesday, 1 June 2011 at 22:26
Taken from my original diary on Facebook
Today has been a busy day but at the same time felt I've had too much time on my hands which isn't good. Heather, Justine & Mum visited over the course of the day so we've had some good company but the morning started off with meeting more of the staff we'll be dealing with. We saw our other Dr here at Poole, Mark who was the one we saw when Charlotte was admitted and broke the bad news to me.We also met the Community nurse who will come out to us at home a lot to take bloods amongst other things.Charlotte wasn't impressed at all particularly as they decided to change the dressing on the wound from the central line in her chest. She's taking time to accept the line and doesn't want anyone to lift or take off her top as she doesn't want to see the wounds & bruising...its early days and she's very young. They gave her to fabric bags for her wiggly (central line)...one has Dora on & the other ballerinas...she says "they're disgusting & I don't want a wiggly bag!" It's very painful & a little red so they have taken a swab to check for infection. Her throat is very sore but thankfully no infections. Charlotte's eaten very well today and although felt sick a lot of the time was only sick once after breakfast. She's been pretty grizzly & grumpy today and also every time she coughs says ow so its hard work tolerating it all day because you know its not her fault...but at the same time you have to maintain the same boundaries & discipline as normal.

Heather stayed with Charlotte while she had her lunch and I went for a break down to the restaurant, where I ate probably the biggest meal since she was admitted to hospital 13 days ago and had a nice roast beef & Yorkshire pudding lunch!
This afternoon we bumped into a nurse who was looking after us the very 1st day Charlotte was admitted to hospital with her original illness on 27th January. She remembered us and asked if it had turned out to be leukaemia...I explained that after 4 weeks I was told that it wasn't and that was absolutely ruled out but here we are 3 months later having just been diagnosed. She was really sorry and seeing her brought it all back and the remembering the relief when I was told they were ruling it out, and then to have to face it all again.
By this evening feeling very frustrated and fed up at being stuck in here and feeling like I'm going to go mad with another 10 days of it. Had a chat with one of the nurses (a lovely lady called Sarah! lol) then went for a walk and spent some quiet time in the chapel. Just having my usual hot chocolate then off to bed...ready to start it all again tomorrow
